Earth Two. A new home for the survivors of the fleet, the men and women who battled against seemingly insurmountable odds to survive the assault of the First Imperium and to destroy the homicidal Regent, the artificial intelligence committed to their destruction.

They have prospered in the years since their arrival, adapting the technology of the First Imperium to build a new and prosperous republic. But as the fear of the First Imperium recedes, cracks have begun to appear, conflicts looming that threaten to destroy all they have worked to achieve.

There are rivalries between the clones known as "Tanks" and the "NBs," naturally-born humans, disputes driven by envy, resentment. And on the fringe of the new society, the enhanced genetic hybrids known as "Mules" are feared by both groups, though they continue to decipher First Imperium technology for the benefit of all.

But there is a far greater threat lurking in deep space, for the Regent was one of two, and its copy activated automatically upon its destruction. It has been planning, exploring, building vast fleets of new warships, and now it is ready to strike at a divided republic, to accomplish what the Regent failed to do. It is ruthlessly single-minded, existing for a single purpose. And that purpose is vengeance.

Winds of Vengeance Crimson Worlds Refugees Volume 4 Jay Allan Books

The survivors of the battles with the Regent super computer that was built by the First Imperium are tying to build a new life on Earth 2. They struggle with only a small group of people and one of the most important issues is to build a larger population that is sustainable. They have to prepare defenses and make new space craft and develop new technologies and weapons. Thirty years later they are split into 4 groups and strife is showing. They have the original survivors, the new born generation, the clones called tanks and the enhanced hybrids that are called mules. As the politics and problems fester among the population of Earth 2 they face an even more threatening and dangerous problem that is unknown to them.

A second supercomputer exists and it has been activated after the destruction of the Regent. It has the technology and the resources of the First Imperium at its disposal and it has only one mission. To enact total vengeance and destruction against the creatures that destroyed the original Regent super computer and it has the power to accomplish that goal………

This is a great premise for the next book in the series and I have read all of the books of this series so far. This book introduces a new cast of characters and as a result a lot of new character development has to take place. In addition a lot of time in the first part of the book is spent on the politics between the 4 different classes of people that live on Earth 2. This is a good story line and it is developed well but my interest are not in politics but in more classic Sci-Fi and the continuation of the storyline of this saga that I have been reading for a long time.

Parts of this book for me are 5 star quality while other parts drag into long discussions regarding the politics and political battles of the inhabitants of Earth 2. The story line and action builds as the book progresses and that held my interest. I am such a fan of Jay Allan and his past books that I believe that this entire series will be well written but for me this first book was a 4 star overall. The excessive politics and internal struggles just detracted from the real enemy and the problems facing the people of Earth 2. I look forward to the next book of the series.

Winds of Vengeance Crimson Worlds Refugees Volume 4 Jay Allan Books Reviews

Having thoroughly enjoyed all the Crimson worlds series, I jumped into this one of the Crimson Worlds Refugees with relish and it certainly did not disappoint. Very enjoyable read with some great new characters, a new menace to be confronted, continued fine military space battles, well described human grit and courage and a fine opening to the next trilogy. Highly recommended!
Another really good novel by Jay Allan. All of his works tend to center around a collapsed galactic empire and the dangers people run into but this spin off has maintained a high level of quality. The Regent is dead, but the peace has proven to be a minefield of disasters - one after another as the Survivors have tried to build a new civilization for themselves cut off from the rest of human space. Now the new Regent comes, the backup, the one that is to make sure that those who defeated the Regent with still feel the wrath of the long dead empire. After a few decades of peace the next generation must step up, the war has returned full throttle.

This Regent though is different. It is unable to fathom the destruction of the first. It has laid multiple plans to bring about the eventual destruction of the Survivors and it has sworn to never underestimate those humans who show an amazing ability to pull victory from defeat, and it has built new fleets, fully powered anti-matter fleets, to assure their eventual destruction.
Winds of Vengeance is the 4th book in the Refugees series and it is just as excellent as the previous books. This time Jay takes us n a journey exploring the fledgling society created by the refugees and demostrates that humanity is very good at screwing up even when given a fresh start. Earth 2, as the original refugees call their planet, is a disaster in waiting with some groups being regarded as dangerous or second class citizens. The 'Mules' were created by Dr. Cutter using human DNA and Ancient genetic material but laws in the new society have ensured that more of these hybrids do not come into being. The Mules are smarter than ordinary humans but their tendency to arrogance sees them as potentially a danger to humans. Then there are the Tanks who are clones created through using the DNA of several of the original refugees and they are mostly thought of a less than those who are born the natural way. Such diverse groups are creating fractures in a society which needs to be united when faced with the realisation that just maybe there are elements of the Imperium till out there. Winds of Vengeance is a well-paced story that has the usual battles and action of a Jay Allan story in addition to the internal difficulties within a new society told from multiple characters pov.
A very well done follow-up to Book 3 kicking off a new trilogy with "Vengeance" the AI picking up where the Regent left off.

Intrigue abounds and moral questions have to be answered when it comes to the Mules, Tanks and NBs(Natural Born Humans).

A small society gears up for war while fighting internal struggles to survive. I look forward to the role of Compton II, the son of our famous Admiral. It is clear to me that the population must increase quickly .. and the only way that can be done is via the tanks and mules. Earth 2 must carefully monitor their use of AIs ... and avoid the traps of the Ancients.

Some editing issues but not enough to distract from the story. Spelling mostly but not a lot of it.

Look forward to Book 5.
